King of The Road

Trailer for sale or rent
Rooms to let, fifty cents
No phone, no pool, no pets
ain’t got no cigarettes

Two hours of pushin’ broom
Buys a eight by twelve four-bit room
I’m a man of means, by no means
King of the road

Third boxcar, midnight train
Destination: Bangor, Maine
Old worn out suit and shoes
I don’t pay no union dues

I smoke, old stogies I have found
Short, but not too big around
I’m a man of means, by no means
King of the road

I know every engineer on every train
All of the children and all of their names
Every handout in every town
Every lock that ain’t locked when no one’s around

They sing, trailers for sale or rent
Rooms to let, fifty cents
No phone, no pool, no pets
I ain’t got no cigarettes

About two hours of pushin’ broom
Buys an eight by twelve four-bit room
I’m a man of means, by no means
King of the road

Trailer for sale or rent
Rooms to let, fifty cents
No phone, no pool, no pets
I ain’t got no cigarettes

About two hours of pushin’ broom
Buys an eight by twelve four-bit room
I’m a man of means, by no means
King of the road

    P.S.
I’ve thought about this photo so often today – – – Martha’s Marfa TX? – – – just makes me sad for places and people that used to be – – – and maybe even more on this July 4th for – – – well, don’t get me started.

I think it is Marfa but haven’t discussed with Martha. I suspect she doesn’t feel the same was as you about some of her photos as you would but again, haven’t discussed with her.

We have video now? Wow, nice … I wasn’t so sure about the song, but I think it is growing on me, especially when he says he doesn’t pay union dues 🙂
